My interest in GNU/Linux started around 2000. At that time, it was an operating system that I only followed from magazines and was secretly interested in. I did not dare to implement most of the things written in the magazines. I had my first GNU/Linux installation experience with Red Hat Linux 9.0, which was published as a Special Issue of CHIP Magazine, which I bought in 2003. Although almost every detail was explained in the magazine, I installed Redhat Linux on top of Windows due to a mistake I made during the installation.
Because I made a mistake, the screen asking me to choose Windows or Red Hat Linux did not appear during the startup. Naturally, I was taken aback. I did not know what to do. Many programs were different from the programs I was used to from Windows. Since I did not know anything and since I had also deleted Windows, if I remember correctly, I got help from an acquaintance at Ege University at that time. I remember what he said to me when I got my hard drive back. “You almost ruined the hard drive. I barely saved the hard drive.” 😁
After this bad experience, I didn't install GNU/Linux on my computer for a long time. But my interest in GNU/Linux never diminished. I was constantly following the news about GNU/Linux in the magazines I bought. I was also trying out the GNU/Linux operating systems that worked from the CD I got (without installation) on my computer. I also bought the LİNUXnet magazines published in 2004 and 2005. This magazine was published entirely for Linux and is the first and only Linux Magazine in Turkey. The magazine's future did not last long. Each issue cost 10,000,000 TL (10 TL) and had no advertisements, it was a magazine published every 3-4 months and they did not publish more than 4 issues. If they had, I would probably have bought all the other issues.
In February 2009, I decided to reinstall Ubuntu Linux after my high school friend installed it on his computer and told me about it. My first job was to back up my files. Then I did the installation very easily. After installing it, my first words were, “Was my computer this fast?” If you start using one of the GNU/Linux distributions, I guess you will think the same way. While even the operating system running from the CD is fast, the speed and compiz effects I saw in Ubuntu Linux installed on the hard disk were enough to impress me.
I have been using GNU/Linux since 2009. Whenever the word Linux is mentioned, I can’t help but read it. GNU/Linux has become a part of my life. It is an operating system that I enjoy using and that makes me feel free. I recommend GNU/Linux distributions to anyone who wants to get rid of the well-known and classic problems of Windows.
GNU/Linux’e olan ilgim aşağı yukarı 2000 yılında başladı. O zamanlar
sadece dergilerden takip ettiğim ve içten içe ilgi duyduğum bir işletim
sistemiydi. Dergilerde yazılanları çoğu zaman uygulamaya cesaret edemedim. İlk
GNU/Linux kurulum deneyimimi 2003 yılında aldığım
CHIP Dergisi’nin Özel Sayı olarak
çıkardığı Red Hat Linux 9.0 ile
yaptım. Dergide hemen hemen her türlü detay anlatılmasına rağmen kurulum
sırasında yaptığım bir hatadan dolayı Windows’un üzerine Redhat Linux’u
kurdum.
Hata yaptığım için açılışta bana
Windows’u mu yoksa Red Hat Linux’u mu seçmemi isteyen ekran gelmedi. Haliyle afalladım. Ne yapacağımı
bilemedim. Bir çok program Windows’tan alıştığım programlardan farklıydı.
Hiçbir şey bilmediğim için ve Windows’u da sildiğim için yanlış
hatırlamıyorsam o zamanlar Ege Üniversitesi'ndeki bir tanıdıktan yardım
almıştım. Hard diskimi geri aldığımda bana söylediği sözü hatırlıyorum.
“Hard diski neredeyse mahfetmişsin. Zar zor kurtardım hard diski.” 😁
Bu kötü deneyimden sonra da bilgisayarıma uzun bir süre GNU/Linux kurmadım.
Ama hiçbir zaman GNU/Linux’e ilgim azalmadı. Aldığım dergilerdeki GNU/Linux
ile ilgili haberleri sürekli takip ediyordum. Elime geçen CD’den Çalışan (
Kurulum yapmadan ) GNU/Linux işletim sistemlerini de bilgisayarımda
deniyordum. 2004 ve 2005 Yılında çıkan
LİNUXnet dergilerini de almıştım. Bu
dergi tamamıyla Linux için çıkartılmış ve Türkiye’nin İlk ve Tek Linux
Dergisi. Derginin geleceği fazla uzun sürmedi. Her sayısı
10.000.000 TL ( 10 TL ) ve içerisinde
hiç reklam bulunmayan bu dergi 3-4 ayda bir çıkartılan bir dergiydi ve 4
sayıdan başka sayı çıkartmadılar. Çıkartmış olsalardı diğer bütün sayıları da
muhtemelen alırdım.
2009 Yılının Şubat ayında lise arkadaşımın kendi bilgisayarına
Ubuntu Linux’u kurmasıyla ve bana da anlatmasıyla tekrar kurulum yapmaya karar verdim.
İlk işim dosyalarımı yedeklemekti. Ardından kurulumu çok kolay bir şekilde
gerçekleştirdim. Kurduktan sonra ilk sözüm şu oldu.
“Benim bilgisayarım bu kadar hızlı mıydı?” Eğer GNU/Linux
dağıtımlarından birini kullanmaya başlarsanız sizin de benimle aynı şekilde
düşüneceğinizi tahmin ediyorum. CD’den çalışan işletim sistemi bile hızlıyken,
hard diskte kurulu olan Ubuntu Linux’teki gördüğüm hız ve compiz efektleri beni etkilemeye yetmişti.
2009 yılından beri GNU/Linux kullanıyorum. Nerede Linux kelimesi geçse,
okumadan edemiyorum. GNU/Linux hayatımın bir parçası haline geldi.
Kullanmaktan keyif aldığım, bana özgür olduğunu hissettiren bir işletim
sistemi. Windows'un o bilinen ve klasik haline gelmiş problemlerinden
kurtulmak isteyen herkese GNU/Linux dağıtımlarını tavsiye ederim.
